and just read in the newly revived Full Step Nickel Club newsletter that nickels are worth 6.5 cents each if melted for their nickel value! I have hundreds and hundreds, maybe even thousands, of nickels! I keep stashing them away from my meager change. I stashed away some BU rolls too.

Why?

Long story short?  6.5 cents for a nickel, that's why.

Long story? I believe the world population will continue to grow. It will hit 7 billion people this year. Most all of them want nickel. Well they really want cars. And running water. Food. Stuff like that. As one resource gets scarce it puts strain on other resources. This point is missed by just about every commentator out there. As oil gets deeper and harder to pump we need bigger drills. Those drills use more oil. And nickel too. Wind mills use steel, and copper. PV modules use copper and silver.

OK, another reason? I like nickels.  Cool

But you cannot by law scrap nickels for melt. Odd though you can with silver coins.

But...Collectors, and others having similar beliefs as Carl, will hoard, hoard, and
more hoard; waiting patiently for the time when need becomes greater than a silly rule against
coin smelting and then all of those holding hoards will suddenly find themselves richer, and richer, and.....

It's all there... A card, a candle, some joss....  Kiss
