Some people are building a collection based on a theme. Ships are neat.

The attached photo is of a medal for the famous British Naval Commander Lord Nelson. The medal is fine silver produced by the Britannia Commemorative Society. It is 45 mm and weighs about 1 1/2 ounce.

Joseph Segel founded two dozen companies, the most famous being QVC. He also founded the Franklin Mint and one year later the Britannia Commemorative Society (back in the '60s).

Carl,
The 2008 coins from Stoltenhoff Island depicts ships,as does some of the 1 Crown medal-coins from Tristan da Cunha.

The fellow who purchased that Nelson lives in Australia and collects coins/medals with ships on them. He also collects coins/medals with planes and trains on them too.

Browsing eBay just now, I spotted a super nice "Hard Times Token" with a date of 1841,
and having a full masted design of the USS CONSTITUTION on the obv side.  It's an
impressive ship, with full sails, moving right along....  Yeah, I know...  Still, it gives me
chicken skin since I have a medal, made from bronze scrap, removed from the same
ship!  These medals were given to sailors who reenlisted during the Navy's celebration
of 200 years!  Surprisingly, the US Mint has recently offered a restrike of this 200th
Anniversary medal...    Have I ordered a restrike?  Of course...  And since my birthyear is
1941, I think the hard times token, 100 years old at my birth, would make a nice addition
to my medal pair!
