The shield reminds me of Superman! The new cents look comic bookish to me. My daughter doesn't think they look very professional either.  Sad

Yes, but....     In today's economy, what is the actual value of a cent?  I will call it a "Penny" as I am more familiar

with that term from childhood.  Anyway, with today's money situation, if you were a penny, you'd not feel

very professional, either!    Jeez.. It just dawned on me... The  shield is pretty close to the gold shield that PCGS

is printing on their new "Secure Plus" labels!   Hmmmm??

When I was born Wheat Cents were the norm, then I remember Memorial Cents on the scene, very exciting and now we have the Shield Cent. I hope to live long enough to see the next design but it takes so long I doubt I will.

I miss the wheat cent, myself.  It remains my favorite.  Just something about those paper strips of
little pastel colored hard candy drops, selling for a cent, when I was a kid.  Seems that all of my favorite
penny candies were gone when the memorial penny was introduced.  Certainly they were. And, as another
member related, I doubt I shall see another design in my lifespan.

Personally, I think the design is just way too simplistic. An accurate reflection of what low relief, high production coinage looks like.

I'm also of the opinion that US coinage is beginning to be the poorest designed coins in the World.
