Here's a combined photo of a South African overprinted 20 Cents postal order that was issued at Maseru,Lesotho in 1976.

Lesotho is an independent kingdom within the British Commonwealth, whose reigning monarch in 1976 was King Moshoeshoe II (reigned 1966-90 & 1995-96).

Between 1966 & 1979,the Rand was legal tender in Lesotho.Since 1979,the Loti (plural; Maloti),which is divided into 100 Lisente (singular; Sente).

These overprinted postal orders have now become extremely difficult to find.

Please let me know what you think.

Aidan.

It is certainly interesting. I thought Lesotho was a little township in South Africa. It is weird that it is a kingdom! Coins, and Postal Orders, sure can teach you a lot!

Carl,
Lesotho has been independent since 1966.Prior to independence,Lesotho was a British protectorate under the name of Basutoland.

Have a read here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesotho .
