The beginning - of course like many I stated when I was a teen searching for the 50-D nickel, svdb, 09-s etc. in change,

Then school, studies, girls, etc. took over so I was away from numismatics for a while.

Post college making the big bucks - I followed the GSA auction craze and was successful in winning a variety of CCs: 80-85.

Then the 84 Olympics came to town. That made it great experience on how to make $$ in the "underground economy" by bidding and winning many premium tix - opening & closing ceremonies, etc. But that's another story.

Then when the market on GSAs tanked I took the contrary approach and bought as many GSA CCs as I can going to coin shows in SO CA. I must have acquired a total of 3-400 GSA CCs during that time - oh the fun 90s.

Forward to the 21st century...to be con'td.

Anyone else want to share their numismatic experience with us?

I'm looking forward to hearing more! A stash of thousands of GSA CC Morgans must have been nice! Oh, I re-read your post, still 3 to 4 hundred must have been really nice too! (my first read had me thinking the dash was a comma  Embarrassed )

When I was a kid I pulled Lincolns from circulation to fill Whitman folders. I would bug my parents friend's to let me see if they had anything I could trade for. I got one GSA Morgan as a birthday present. Also a few other coins over the years. In high school I forgot about it all. Only in the 90s did I start back up. I got hooked on high quality type coins, learned about certification and bought. Later I got bit by the Registry set craze. I put together a #1 Proof Jefferson nickel set and really enjoyed that. Eventually I had so many coins I wanted to sell a few. I was so disappointed by the prices offered I decided to sell some on eBay. Then I made a website and am still a part time web based dealer. I still like type coins.

When I was a child my uncle had a painting made with coins. I really liked it and always said I want to made one. Then my uncle gave me some foreign coins, to "start saving to make my piece of art".

I started to ask people for foreign coins. Friends and family members gave me coins from their trips and that is how I come into coin collecting.
Now I have about 2,500 coins catalogued and saved in 2x2 cardboards.

Note: I never made my "painting with coins" but I started a nice hobby. Smiley

Welcome Goossen!

Are you ever going to make a painting with coins? That sounds like a cool thing to attempt with junk world coins.
