If anybody complains that this thread belongs in another category, say the open forum or B/S/T, well I'll, I'll... gee I guess I just move it with no fanfare.  Cool

Anyway I'm pretty excited about this heavy silver set. Service for 12. It is sterling except for the knives which have silver handles (more than half the weight of the knife) with stainless blades. Naturally I need much better photos. I'll try for more in the morning. For some reason I get my best photos in the morning.

Anyways (my daughter says "anyways" with the s) there are knives, regular forks, salad forks, butter knives, spoons, soup spoons, 2 serving spoons, one gravy spoon and one tiny crab fork. I weighed a regular fork, salad fork, butter knife, regular spoon and soup spoon. They weighed in at 6 ounces. Sterling is 0.925% silver. 6 * 0.925 is 5.55 ounces of pure silver. That is just one setting (minus the knife) so a dozen settings contains 12 * 5.55 or 66.6 ounces of pure silver. As of this writing N.Y. spot silver prices are $18.39/ounce according to Kitco (their prices are available on my coin website: http://www.carlscoins.com/). That makes those 12 place settings worth about $1,225 in melt value alone.

When my client told his wife the dinner forks alone were worth around $375 if melted and sold as a chunk of metal she was happily surprised! The number above doesn't include the serving stuff or the knives. The knives actually have 2 hallmarks, Sterling on the handle and stainless on the blade.

I will need to research "Wallace Silver" or something like that. But I wanted to share it with you all first! Smiley Please correct my math if I've made a mistake. Please let me know what I'm missing. If you collect silver sets please let me know what buyers are looking for. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, that reminds me, I have some silver knives and spoons I won at different shooting matches a long time ago, 45 years ago. HOLY !
