I reckon it has to be the 1970S $1/2,as that one almost never turns up.

I've only ever come across one since I have been involved in numismatics.

Close. The 1970-D was only issued in mint sets with a low mintage of 2,150,000. The S mint proof (I excluded proofs) had mintage numbers 1/2 million higher.

Carl,
John F. Kennedy $1/2 coins began in 1964.In 1961,it was the Benjamin Franklin $1/2 coin that was being struck.

Aidan.

It was a question requiring some extra thought.

Yup. I guess all JFKs were minted after '61. Smiley Even so that '70-D has a lower mintage than any Franklin between '61 and '63. Only when you go back to the proofs of '61 do you get a lower mintage (or some of the more recent silver JFK proofs).

Yup, I needed some extra thought on phrasing the question in the first place.  Embarrassed

That doesn't count! My Redbook doesn't include 2008s. Smiley

Then are you looking for the 2000-P at 8.9 Million?
