I grow alpine strawberries in my backyard. They are tiny and I only get a dozen every few weeks. However one tiny alpine strawberry has more taste than the huge, mutant, strawberries on offer at the local markets. Those monsters are all white in the middle. If you scrape off the red part you have removed all taste. Strawberries supposedly adsorb chemicals so my organic ones are safer. I just can't eat the commercial varieties. Most people don't even know the difference.

So which are better? Well it is a trick question because I grow alpine strawberries in CA, but they are so very much better it isn't funny.

 Shocked

Yessir, Carl!   Tongue

I missed this one and now, after reading it for the first time, I must respond; certainly
to agree with you!

My, my...  If only some enterprizing import/export organization would dial up these Alpine berries for
delivery to the U.S. market, I would be very happy!  Their unique, and full flavored taste is beyond
compare...  We last purchased them (1984) in kilo baskets, after crossing the new bridge, driving north
from Geneva!  Fond, fond, memories.  Thanks for reminding me.

 Cool

For anyone interested, the folks down at Oxnard, California, hold an annual Strawberry Festival!

Next year's dates are:  May 21st & 22nd (Sat & Sun).  Hours 10 am until 6:30pm.

The AMTRAK Pacific Surfliner offers discounted travel to the festival.  Children 2-15 ride free.

The festival provides shuttle bus service from the AMTRAK station, to the festival.  Free shuttle
bus between train depot, and festival, both ways.

And yes, several local farmers grow and offer, those tiny, but delicious, "Alpine" berries!

Google Strawberry Festival to make arrangements for travel, to find driving directions, and to
reserve overnight accommodation, if required..

A visit to this exciting and special festival will surely be fondly remembered!   Cool
