Farmer's markets

We just got back from our weekly trip to our local farmer's market. It was crowded! I haven't ever seen it this crowded. There were lots of different samples available. Fruit is still fresh and plentiful. There was lots of greens. Berries and mushrooms were available but expensive. Salad veggies were plentiful and cheap. Shelled almonds were on offer. It was pleasant to see people buying orchards and bunches of cut flowers.
Teresa bought a bunch of raw peanuts. She boils them then eats them. I bought a loaf of fresh, artisan Italian bread from a new vendor who traveled to San Jose from Berkeley. We bought a nice white nectarine.

Holy Toledo, Carl!
I had no idea that orchards were still avail for sale. Back when I lived in Milpitas,
Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Santa Clara, they cleared all of them for apartments, strip malls, and fast food outlets... My, my...

Ah, a wise guy!
We just returned from our Sunday routine with more of lots of stuff. It sure was nice seeing FLOWERS like ORCHIDS. But I bet some of these farmers would sell you their farms.
We bought mini pumpkins and will stuff them with veggies and nuts and bake them for a seasonal treat.
We bought jujabe. It is so cool to find a new food I've never eaten before! Teresa's friends told her they were great. They are different. The friends said they are good but after you eat a few they get better and better. Well I had one and loved it right off the bat! They look like a huge chestnut or the seed of a California Buckeye. However they are light. The brown skin is good you just eat the whole thing except for the seed in the center. The fruit looks like an apple, is crisp but slightly fluffier than an apple. The taste is unusual! Try some!
