I have a couple of detectors and get out once in awhile, not often enough. But soon the skeeters will have calmed down and it will be more pleasurable to get out in the woods. I like to hunt around old farm sites and old house foundations where the buildings have long since disappeared 100 years ago.

other places to hunt are:

sand boxes where kids play and drop "modern craps" from their pockets

parks where families gather and coins and other valuables are "lost."

beaches during low tides

I've been known to "put the coil to the soil" a time or two.  But you knew that.   Wink

Geez, here it is November, and I haven't gone out diggin' since about March!  In fact, I loaned the detector to a friend almost two months ago and still haven't called him to ask for it back!  I think I will, soon, though.  It's perfect here for diggin', now that summer's long over with and cooler weather is here.

I picked up a White's about a year ago. I've used it maybe 5-6 times. I haven't found anything very interesting so it didn't hold my interest long. I'll try again next year.

It takes a LOT of persistence and patience.

One has to learn to be pleased with even the most seemingly worthless bits of junk, if they're at least interesting.  That's it- I shoot for "interesting", not "valuable".  I do manage to find a good bit of interesting stuff, often old.  Sometimes even valuable, too.

Too many folks have visions of gold coins and diamond rings when they start out.  The reality is, you've got to wade through mountains of junk metal to get those occasional nice finds, no matter how experienced you are or how good your machine is.

But pleasant surprises can and do happen.  The trick is stickin' with it long enough for the law of averages to kick in and favor you with a truly great find.  They do happen.  Lady Luck favors the persistent.
