Anyone live in Haiti?

Nope.

There were a bunch of little ones around here the past few days leading up to a 6.5 off Eureka which is on the coast up by the Oregon border. I think they are all connected.

I didn't think that earthquakes occurred in that part of the Caribbean.

I know they occur in Mexico,Central America,& in the Andean countries down the left hand side of South America,especially Colombia.

We get earthquakes quite often here in New Zealand,as New Zealand sits right on the boundary of 2 plates.

Turned out to be quite a problem for them, so sad.  Everything was built so poorly it just came right down. When we had one of similar magnitude here in 1989 about 56 people died. We lost a highway overpass and part of a bridge. Everybody saw ours, it was the fist major earthquake broadcast live on TV. The world series was just about to start in the Oakland Coliseum and all the national TV cameras were rolling.

Anyway it is a shame there are so many places on this earth that have so many problems. It makes our problems seem tame.

Well i heard on the news today that they had a 6.1 aftershock this moring. that really sucks thoughts and prayers are with the people

I must say from experience the aftershocks are miserable. I keep thinking that the big one was just a pre-cursor and the aftershock is the start of a much bigger one!  And there are noticeable aftershocks from a quake like that, likely every day at least a 3 sometimes 4.

Shaking Haiti is like kicking a dog when it is already down. They were in bad shape to start with.

We don't get many big quakes here in the north east, I do recall one that was 3.8 or thereabouts. I thought the kids were upstairs foolin a round. I hollered at them and a split second later saw them outside in the yard.
