It is almost the shortest day of the year. Christmas is one week away. I like seeing Christmas lights, they are cheerful and brighten things up.

Almost nobody on our street, except us, has put up lights this year! Bah humbug!

In the past the three houses directly across the street put up lights but not this year. One couple is fixing up their house, I think they are planning on selling in a couple of years and retiring. Another is retired and having big plumbing work done. Not sure what the 3rd is up to. Still!

The two houses on either side of us don't have lights either but they never have done so. The house on one side was empty for a few years, now it has a nice young couple who are fixing it up. I was hoping for lights there but no. The other side isn't much visible from the street and they have never put up lights.

And so it goes for the rest of the street. Some never have put up lights but in years past about 1 out of 3 have had some lights. This year is more like 1 out of 10. Or less.

Are they trying to save money? Electricity? The trouble of putting them up and taking them down? Heck if I know.

Just installed a mistletoe in the hall used by the women's aerobics class. Does that count?

You could see our tree in the living room if you look quick enough on the way by. That's all I'm willing to do. I saw a report on tv yesterday where a home owner had over 40,000 lights on the property. Now that is crazy.
