I just google'd today's holiday and learned President Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming November 11'th as Veteran's day back in 1954. In 1918 England and France buried an "unknown" soldier at 11:11 on the 11'th day of the 11'th month of that year. The US followed in 1921. In 1926 and act of congress named Nov, 11'th Armistice Day.
Any veterans out there probably know all that already (and more.) In any case thanks for serving.
