Ok I live in Florida and they already give us this test called the fcat to see if u pass or fail and we also take semester exams but next year they are going to pass a bill where If you fail the end of corse exam you fail that course even if you had an A all through the year and then the really messed up part is that teacher does not get paid if her/his students do not do well on the end of corse exam Angry this is how messed up our education system is they say americans are not learning anything that IS BULL we do learn stuff in she schools but now they want to even put more pressure on us and teachers.
(currently im in high school)

Well, now that I'm not in school any more I'm all for tests! Smiley Just kidding, more tests won't help. Tests need to be uniform so that someone who passes a test in Arkansas that says they know how to read will pass a reading test in Alaska. But there are already more tests than actual teaching. I say fewer tests!

Holding teacher's feet to the fire will not work. Maybe they get a lower/higher performing set of students that year. Maybe their school can't afford to buy books or heat the classroom or something that is out of their control.

As a capitalistic American I think there should be competition. If your school isn't working for you you should be able to attend a different school. Then a school with horrible teachers that nobody likes will end up with no students and will go out of business. Good schools will get more students, then they would have more money to pay their teachers more and maybe hire even more or add music classes or other good things.

I'll read up on the Florida thing. Clearly a teacher who shows and does his work needs to get paid. If he is great there should be a way to reward his superior performance. If he is terrible he needs to go back to school himself.

Now a coin collector like you should have no problems in school. You read the little, tiny, words on half dimes right? You examine your change and count up the face value in modern mint sets right? Hah, you pass my test! Smiley

In our high school district the community had a huge protest when they decided to drop all sports programs. Oh, no, what will our kids do if they don't have sports! Oh, my.

Well I'll tell you what they should do, they should study! Where are the priorities. School is for learning. Sports is a luxury. But not here in one of the worst performing school districts in CA. Here we cut out music, librarians, janitors and everybody who stays gets a pay cut so they can continue playing sports. Sheesh.

Good for you. I'm happy to know you see an alternative in AL. See, you know geography too, PASS!

Heck, you get extra bonus credits for chatting late at night with old folks like me. Smiley

 Sad

I wish I could add something to the back and forth here... Unfortunately, I can't.
My HS days were a complete waste. If you showed up everyday, didn't piss
any of the teachers off, you were passed on each year; with little effort...or
learning.  Levis, tee-shirt, penny loafers.. Pack of smokes in the left sleeve.
Ala James Dean... I recall taking one test that was statewide, and now, I
don't recall if it was difficult, or easy!
I mostly agree with what Carl has said, tho....

Good Luck!
